Effects of MSM on hair

Methylsulfonylmethane or MSM is a naturally occurring form of sulfur in foods. It is believed to promote hair growth, increase hair shaft thickness, and prevent shedding. MSM has been proven to aid in tissue and cell repair, and hair and nails are in fact made up of dead skin cells. The idea is that the more cells you produce you should also have more hair and nail growth.

MSM can be found in foods such as steamed vegetables, eggs, beef, poultry, diary products, and fish. It can be consumed in pill form or applied directly to the hair with an oil and sublimed sulfur powder mixture. Click here to learn how to create your own oil and sublimed sulfur mix.

The effects that MSM can have on your hair growth and health vary from person to person. High dosages of MSM, (2500 mg plus), may cause headaches according to some members of the Black Hair Planet. Some BHP members report softening of hair texture, increased hair growth, and reduced shedding. There are no other known adverse effects of taking a MSM supplement. Try supplementing MSM into your diet and see if you could benefit from it.
